Last weekend my parents and I flew out to Chicago to visit my brother, Noah, Lauren, and their beautiful baby girl Vivienne. Here are a few pictures from a wonderful weekend with family.

A blank mind

Tired eyes stare through an empty wall,

Tap, tap, tap.

An idea flickers;

An image, a phrase.

Reach out- grab it fast!

A pen, paper, endless bag, nothing-

Unlock phone, open notes, finally there!

Thought gone.

Close eyes tight…

Open empty mind.

Still waiting.

Visually Merchandising a Small Space: Miss Pixie’s

I love DC shops because in order to stay in prime DC real estate these retailers have to be superb merchandisers. Miss Pixie’s does a great job of displaying a lot of product in a small space, on the cheap.

Stopping by Miss Pixie’s the morning after their Easter peep party this April I was greeted by colorful peeps on skewers at the cash register, as well as threaded to create this inexpensive window decoration:

Beautiful paper lights added decoration without extra clutter:

If you’re feeling crafty check out how to make this egg carton flower light:

Miss Pixie’s maximizes their space by stacking merchandise. The bright, bold color of this hot pink chair in the front center of the shop is incorporated in the umbrellas (which cover unappealing stage lights) and is reflected in the paint color of the back wall, helping attract your attention to the back of the store.

“Each of us feels some aspect of the world’s suffering acutely. And we must pay attention. We must act. This little corner of the world is ours to transform. This little corner of the world is ours to save.”

Stephen Cope, from The Great Work of Your Life
